New thermal power plant construction begins in Central Anatolia

03.09.2010

Today’s Zaman - Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister, Taner Yildiz, laid the foundation of a thermal power plant, that is expected to provide employment for 3,000 people, in a ceremony in the Central Anatolian province of Cankiri on Wednesday. The thermal plant, currently being constructed by Yildizlar SSS Holding, is expected to cost a total of USD 600 million. “As the global economic crisis still lingers and some countries announce bankruptcy, these investments take place in Turkey. Turkey keeps on growing. We do not have a market problem. The electricity produced here will be consumed in Turkey. Electricity must be produced through renewable resources in Turkey. We will provide growth at the hands of the private sector and we will work for the private sector to invest their savings in this sector again”, said Yildiz at the ceremony.
