Reuters - Turkish state-run power company Elektrik Uretim (EUAS) has signed a nuclear energy cooperation deal with South Korea's Korea Electric Power Corp. (Kepco). The deal covers cooperation with South Korea for a planned nuclear power plant in the Black Sea province of Sinop.

Construction of nuclear infrastructure could start in the short-term, said South Korean Deputy Prime Minister Young Hak Kim, speaking at the Turkish-South Korean business conference in Istanbul. However, he did not disclose further details.

Turkey wants to build two nuclear power plants to reduce its dependence on foreign energy imports and address the growing need for electricity for an economy that grew by an average of six percent per year between 2003 and 2008.
