Today’s Zaman - The Turkish automotive sector increased exports by 53 percent to $8.67 billion in the first four months of 2008 over the same period last year. According to Automotive Manufacturers' Association (OSD) data, the exports of the entire auto industry grew by 57 percent to $5.98 billion, while the exports of just the automotive spare parts industry increased by 44 percent to $2.69 billion in the January-April 2008 period compared to same period last year.
Vehicle exports grew by 44.6 percent to 372,456 in the first four months of this year compared to the same period of 2007. Passenger car exports in the same period increased by 31.7 percent to 204,289, whereas commercial vehicle exports increased by 65 percent to 164,047.
Ford Otosan maintained its lead in the first four months by increasing its exports by 33.2 percent to 94,430 vehicles. Oyak Renault took second with 93,064 vehicle exports in an increase of 33.2 percent over the same period last year. Tofas Fiat's exports increased by 100.9 percent to 86,613, taking third place. Toyota Turkey exported 55,232 vehicles, followed by Hyundai Assan with 20,242.
