Today’s Zaman - Turkey's Yildiz Holding has become a member of the Liaison Committee of the Confederation of the Food and Drink Industries of the EU (CIAA). In a written statement released on Tuesday, the company said their application to become a member of the committee was approved at the CIAA's recent general assembly.
The statement said Mehmet Tutuncu, Yildiz Holding’s Food and Beverage Division Chairman, will represent the holding on the committee. “Yildiz Holding will have a voice in committee meetings and take its place in lobbying activities carried out for the scientific and economic development of the European food and drink industry”, said the statement.
There are 20 members on the committee, and all must attend at least one committee meeting every year. Some 25 international federations, three observers and 30 sector associations are members of the Liaison Committee. Companies eager to become a member of the CIAA Liaison Committee should have more than EUR 1 billion of annual turnover, have a company center in Europe and commercial ties with at least five European countries.
Representing the food and drink industry's interests in the global arena, CIAA works to provide a healthy market atmosphere where companies can compete effectively. Conducting studies on food quality and safety, consumer information and environmental responsibility as regards the food and drink industry are also some of the missions of the confederation.
