Today’s Zaman – Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Saturday said countries trading with Turkey and anyone investing in the country will prosper, citing economic figures from this year and Turkey’s goals for its centennial to reassure current and potential investors.
Erdogan spoke during a breakfast meeting organized by the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Turkey (ISPAT) in New York’s Plaza Hotel. He pointed to Turkey’s economic successes over time and said that it was not easy to achieve strong economic figures in a period where the eurozone, Turkey’s biggest trading partner, is suffering from a debt crisis.
“We made many reforms, especially sector- and company-specific micro reforms, to increase Turkey’s competitive advantage in the world, and we will continue this implementation,” Erdogan said. “You will see that Turkey will make a jump in high value-added sectors; therefore, I would like to invite companies operating in the IT, nanotechnology and other industries to our country. I would like to remind you that we are currently constructing an IT valley similar to Silicon Valley in the US. Moreover, Turkey will also become one of the 10 biggest economies in the world by 2023, the 100th centennial of the Turkish Republic, while reaching a yearly export figure of USD 500 billion at that time. … Investors or countries trading with Turkey during this time [until 2023] will surely turn out profitable and will receive high profits for their work. I would like to invite our American friends to increase their business with Turkey and want Turkish and American businessmen to form partnerships to invest in third countries,” Erdogan added.
