Gul pledges full backing for EU bid

Today’s Zaman - Highlighting that Turkey's final goal vis-à-vis the European Union process was full membership, Turkish President Abdullah Gul pledged unflagging support to achieve this objective. Remarks by the president, a former foreign minister in charge of Turkey's EU membership process, came in a speech delivered at the ninth North-South Europe Economic Forum held in Izmir. "The theme of this year's forum, 'Turkey: a strong partner for Europe,' clearly displays Turkey's vision concerning the EU," Gul said in his speech. "Today, I can say with pleasure that Turkey has become a country which, to a large extent, obeys EU criteria in many fields thanks to economic and political reforms which have accelerated, particularly in recent years," the president added.
