Turkey’s Tofas given key role in Fiat’s R&D operations

Zaman - Turkey’s leading automotive company Tofas will assume a research and development (R&D) role for Fiat’s markets in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). The JV between Turkey’s Koc Holding and the largest Italian automotive manufacturer Fiat has invested over USD 900 million in R&D in the last six years, manufacturing light commercial vehicles for global brands, as well as Fiat-branded passenger vehicles.

Tofas recently revamped its Linea model sedan, in production in company’s Bursa plant since 2007, becoming a pilot facility for Fiat’s India and Brazil plants, both of which are expected to launch production of the vehicle soon. Tofas engineers will also contribute to the development of Fiat’s next generation sedan for the EMEA markets.

Tofas’ Bursa plant manufactures Doblo and Minicargo based vehicles for Opel/Vauxhall, Peugeot/Citroen, as well as Fiat itself. The company is among the global top 1,000 R&D spenders.
