“Turkey's trade with US must at least equal trade with EU”

Today’s Zaman - Ugur Terzioglu, Chairman of the Turkish-American Business Association (TABA/AmCham), said on Saturday that the trade volume between Turkey and the US must increase to at least the level of Turkey's trade with the European Union. According to a statement by the Association following Terzioglu’s meeting with the US Ambassador to Turkey, James Jeffrey, and Senior Commercial Officer, James Fluker, possible cooperation areas between Turkey and the US include energy, infrastructure, real estate and tourism. Terzioglu said US firms are particularly interested in tourism, renewable energy and nuclear energy projects in Turkey and added, "The US can also undertake an active role in financing investors." Terzioglu also recalled the commitment expressed by the US President Barack Obama, Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to boost the countries' mutual commercial relations during Obama's visit to Turkey. Terzioglu asked for every possible support from these politicians to help accomplish the target set as part of this shared commitment.
