Ford unveils Turkish-made LCVs in European launch event

Zaman - US automotive company Ford’s new range of vehicles, including Turkish-engineered and made light commercial vehicles (LCV), have been revealed at a press event held in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The LCV named Tourneo Courier, slated to hit the world markets in 2014, is the latest addition to the company’s impressive line of commercial vehicles designed and manufactured in Turkey. An enlarged version of the company’s existing Transit model LCV, also manufactured in Turkey was among the 15 new models unveiled in the company’s “Go Further” brand event.

Under the company’s One Ford strategy that envisions a more integrated production that utilizes different subsidiaries’ production capabilities to have more ‘global’ models instead of diversified vehicles for different regions and markets, Ford relies heavily on its Turkish arm, Ford-Otosan and its particular expertise in the LCVs.

“The Transit model, manufactured in Turkey, has become a brand of its own,” Ford Motor Company’s Chief Executive Alan Mulally said, referring to the successful Transit model commercial vehicle. The model is being exported to nearly 70 countries, including the USA.

“Ford-Otosan will increase its production capacity to 400,000 vehicles per year and maintain its “LCV hub” status in Ford’s global network,” said Ford Otosan General Manager Haydar Yenigun at the launch ceremony of the Tourneo Courier.

The company will begin manufacturing the Courier in its new plant located Yenikoy, Kocaeli at a rate of 110,000 vehicles per year in 2014.
