Turkish Airlines to establish regional aircraft maintenance center

Zaman - Istanbul is slated to become a regional base for aircraft maintenance as Turkish Airlines Technic, a division of Türkiye’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY), nears completion of its maintenance-repair facility to serve both domestic and regional air carriers.

The second of its kind facility in Istanbul, the center is located in Sabiha Gokcen International Airport on the Asian side of the city and will be able to handle the body and engine maintenance, repair and overhaul of passenger jets of various sizes.

The need for a second maintenance center in Istanbul primarily arises from THY’s and other Turkish carriers’ enlarging fleets and the tendency of foreign airline companies to outsource aircraft maintenance. The facility will be operational in November, with 700 personnel and is expected to employ around 3,000 workers in 2016.
