Turkey’s motor vehicle production up by 26 percent in 2010

Today’s Zaman - The total number of vehicles produced in Turkey surpassed 1 million units in the past year. According to the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA), Turkey’s motor vehicle production, compared to 2009, significantly increased by 25.9 percent and neared 1.1 million units in 2010. Out of the 1.1 million units, 603,394 were cars and 491,163 were commercial vehicles such as trucks and vans. Despite the rise in vehicle manufacturing, Turkey’s rank remained unchanged in 2010, securing the 16th place. Moreover, the OICA report stated that the world automotive sector, which faced difficult times in 2009 due to the global financial crisis, started to recover in the past year when the world’s total motor vehicle production rose by 25.8 percent, reaching 77.61 million units.
