Russia to build Turkey’s first nuclear plant

Today’s Zaman - The Turkish Atomic Energy Agency (TAEK) has deemed the Turkish-Russian Joint Venture Atomstroyexport-Inter Rao-Park Teknik, the only bidder in a tender for the construction of Turkey's first nuclear power plant, technically sufficient after finalizing its analysis regarding the consortium's plan for the technical features of the plant. According to the TAEK criteria, Turkey's first nuclear power plant should use proven state-of-the-art technological innovations and comply with the international norms set by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). Moreover, the plant is expected to be designed to minimize the possible radiological effects of serious accidents. The power plant will have a capacity of 4,000 megawatts.
