Invest News DetailToday’s Zaman - Avea, Türkiye's third-largest mobile phone operator, has opened a technopark in Istanbul's Umraniye district, planning to control the company's operations throughout the country through a single center equipped with advanced R&D facilities. During the press conference held on Tuesday to introduce the technopark building, Avea CEO Cuneyt Turktan said they are glad to have achieved their goal of constructing and establishing a technopark center, as they plan to develop new technologies and offer their customers a more advanced GSM service. Turktan said the technopark, built on an area of 17,000 square meters, cost the company some USD 18 million. “We have invested a total amount of USD 1.3 billion in the Turkish market over the past four years. With this new center, we expect to expand our technology database and embark on stimulating new projects” the Avea CEO said. Turktan hopes their R&D studies will contribute to efforts to reduce Türkiye's dependence on foreign technology markets and open new horizons, enabling the switch to local technology production using local sources from the country's domestic market. He said they will hire some 700 new employees before the end of 2009.
