Enerjisa launches wind turbine in Canakkale

Today’s Zaman - Enerjisa, the energy group of one of Turkey’s largest business conglomerates, Sabanci Holding, and its Austrian partner Verbund inaugurated a wind farm in Turkey’s northwestern province of Canakkale on Saturday.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Turkey’s Energy and Natural Resources Minister Taner Yildiz said the government is prepared to provide the necessary support for private sector renewable energy projects. The 90 MW power plant is the first of a series of wind farms Enerjisa plans to construct in 2011, Sabanci CEO Guler Sabanci told reporters. “We expect to reach 300 MW in wind power in Turkey and launch a 100-150 MW project soon. We have confidence in Turkey’s competitive energy market,” said Sabanci.

Verbund Deputy CEO Johann Sereinig added that the Verbund-Sabanci partnership is the largest private energy investment in Turkey, totaling more than EUR 2.4 billion. “We could not have made these investments, had it not been for Turkey’s unique investment opportunities,” he said. In 2010 alone, the total size of renewable energy investments reached 4,000 MWs in Turkey, the highest amount reached in a single year in the country’s history.
