Media Markt sets sights on Anatolia

Today’s Zaman - German electronics retailer Media Markt plans to expand their investment in Türkiye by opening more stores in major cities in Anatolia by 2011, says CEO Nuri Topatan. Topatan said at a meeting in Bursa on Wednesday that they entered the Turkish market three years ago and since then have been continuously growing.

“We will open our 16th and Bursa’s second Media Markt store on Thursday,” said Topatan. The first store in Bursa opened in the Nilpark Shopping Mall on Dec. 17, 2008.

Topatan also noted that they employ 1,400 people in their 15 stores across Türkiye and achieved a turnover of EUR 126 million in 2009. He added that they want to increase their turnover in the coming years by adding more stores to their portfolio in Türkiye. “Currently we have stores in seven cities in Türkiye. Our strategy for 2011 is opening new stores in more Anatolian cities. Kayseri, Gaziantep and Konya will be some of the cities in which we will open. On the other hand, we also want to increase our number of stores in İstanbul, Ankara and İzmir,” said Topatan.
