Dünya – Votorantim Cimentos, a division of Brazil’s industrial conglomerate Votorantim Group, has unveiled investment plans of up to EUR 140 million to expand its business in Türkiye. Tripling the output at its factory in the country’s eastern province of Sivas, the world’s 8th largest supplier of cement may even set up or acquire a new plant to tap the growth potential of Türkiye’s construction sector, according to company officials.
“The investment in our Sivas plant will boost capacity to 1.8 million tons per year, up from its current level of 0.6 million tons. Following the upgrade investment the Sivas plant will account for 42 percent of Votorantim’s cement production capacity in Türkiye,” said Sefik Tuzun, Votorantim Türkiye’s CEO, regarding their investment plans. “Votorantim sees the potential of Türkiye’s construction sector and this investment shows our commitment to reinforcing our presence in Türkiye. Sivas’ expansion will bring a crucial dynamism and competitiveness to the company in the Turkish cement market,” he added.
Scheduled to start in June, the capacity upgrade will be complete by April 2017. The construction works for the extension will create employment for 700 people. Votorantim Türkiye is active in cement production as well as concrete and aggregate businesses in the country, accounting for a share of about 29 percent of Votorantim Cimentos’ total production capacity, excluding China.
