Tourism sector grew in Turkey while competing countries see decline

Turk.Net – Turkey’s tourism sector grew 1.47 percent, while the sector shrank around seven percent in the world during January-July 2009, according to the World Tourism Organization. Turkey’s Ministry of Culture and Tourism said in a statement that the tourism sector saw a drop of seven percent on a global scale and 8.4 percent in Europe during January-July 2009 on the back of the negative effects of the global financial crisis. "Tourism grew 1.47 percent in Turkey during the same period with the number of tourists rising to 21.8 million. Among the ten most popular tourist destinations in the world, only Turkey had an increase in the number of tourists", according to the statement.
