US insurer Cigna enters Turkish market

Star - US health insurer Cigna has officially commenced operations in Turkey’s growing insurance market. The 219-year old company will provide health, life and accident insurance programs through direct marketing channels in Turkey.

Announcing the opening of the company’s office in Istanbul, Cigna Hayat CEO Refik Berkol said that Turkey’s advanced banking system, widespread usage of credit cards and growing middle class indicated the country’s growth potential. “Cigna’s decision to enter Turkey was based on a detailed analysis of such criteria,” Berkol noted, adding that the company’s five-year-plan was to reach five million people via telephone, TV and internet to offer products and services.
