Türkiye set to launch its first domestic satellite

AA - Türkiye plans to launch its first domestically built earth observation satellite next year. Rasat, having a high-resolution optical imaging system and new modules developed by Turkish engineers, will be the first earth observation satellite to be designed and manufactured in Türkiye. The satellite will be launched from a rocket launch site in southeast Russia. Officials from Türkiye's TUBITAK Space Technologies Research Institute and Russia's International Space Company Kosmotras concluded an agreement last month to launch the Turkish satellite. Images from Rasat are expected to be used in mapping, disaster monitoring, environment and urban and regional planning.
