Ford starts construction of 3rd plant in Türkiye

Hürriyet - Ford Otosan, the JV between Ford Motor Company of USA and Koc Holding of Türkiye, broke the ground for the company’s third automotive plant in Türkiye’s northwestern province of Kocaeli. Planned as part of the USD 1 billion investment package spanning over three years, the Yenikoy plant will focus solely on a new light commercial vehicle (LCV) once it goes operational in 2013.

Rahmi Koc, the Honorary Chairman of Koc Holding, said Ford Otosan holds the title of the first exporter of automotive products from Türkiye to Ford’s home country, the USA, and that he is proud to be pushing the button in the construction of the company’s third plant in Türkiye. “Ford’s Connect model LCV, also known as the “Transit from Golcuk”, is doing taxi service in cities like New York, Boston, Chicago, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Orlando and San Francisco,” said Koc during the groundbreaking ceremony.

The Yenikoy plant will have an annual production capacity of 110,000 vehicles, taking Ford’s vehicle production capacity in Türkiye to 400,000 units per year.
