Istanbul, rising international trade hub

AA - Istanbul has become the shining star in Türkiye's foreign trade operations in 2009, as a hefty 54.4 percent, or USD 55.6 billion, of Türkiye’s exports originated in Istanbul.

A considerable amount of Türkiye’s imports were also bound for Istanbul, with 55.8 percent of imports, amounting to USD 78.6 billion, arriving there in 2009.

The Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) figures showed that most of the exports were produced in Istanbul, Bursa, Izmir, Ankara, Kocaeli, Gaziantep, Sakarya, Denizli, Hatay and Adana respectively.

Last year, exports from the northwestern province of Bursa reached USD 9 billion, while Izmir’s exports amounted to USD 6.1 billion.
