Izmir eager to host Chinese car production plant

Yeni Asir - One of China’s leading automotive producers Dong Feng Motors (DFM) remains the center of attention for various Turkish cities willing to host the car production plant, which is to be built in Türkiye as a part of an investment package worth USD 250 million.

Izmir Mayor Aziz Kocaoglu and Ekrem Demirtas, Chairman of the Izmir Chamber of Commerce (ITO), travelled to Istanbul to convince DFM to invest in Izmir. DFM, the third largest automotive producer in China, is still evaluating different locations in Türkiye for its planned facility.

In a highly confidential meeting organized by the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Türkiye (ISPAT), the delegation from Izmir briefed high-level executives from the Chinese company and representatives of MGY Otomotiv, DFM’s partner in Türkiye, about the advantages Izmir offers to investors. The delegation pointed out the fact that Izmir, with its advantageous location, combined logistics and production capabilities, is the most suitable candidate for the investment, which is expected to create employment opportunities for 1,000 people. The presentation also highlighted Izmir’s proximity to European and world markets, the presence of special investments zones in the province, the location of organized industrial zones, its universities, qualified work force and other foreign companies operating in the Aegean region.
