Vodafone Türkiye partnered with UAE-based EDGNEX Data Centres by DAMAC to establish an advanced data center in Izmir, with an estimated investment of USD 100 million. Scheduled for completion in 2025, the new facility will have a capacity of 6 megawatts and will be built to Tier 3 standards, ensuring high levels of uptime, redundancy, and fault tolerance.
The joint venture marks a significant milestone for both companies, combining Vodafone's local infrastructure expertise with EDGNEX's global data center capabilities. EDGNEX Vice Chairman and Board Member Aqil Ali highlighted the project's importance in providing critical digital infrastructure for Türkiye's growing western market, pointing to Izmir's strategic location and the rising demand for data centers across the Eastern Mediterranean.
Vodafone Türkiye CEO Engin Aksoy underlined the company's long-standing commitment to the Turkish economy, noting investments exceeding TRY 157.6 billion over 17 years. “Our goal through this strategic partnership is to develop data center facilities in both Türkiye and international markets," Aksoy said. “The data center we are set to build in Izmir will be our primary joint project, with total investment expected to reach USD 100 million. It will be a major milestone in our technology investments, and Vodafone will continue to leverage its global experience and local capabilities to contribute to the sustainable growth of our country."
Designed to be earthquake-resistant and powered by green energy sources wherever possible, the Izmir facility will benefit from the city's proximity to submarine cable transit hubs, offering strong connectivity to Europe, Africa, and Asia. The carrier-neutral center is expected to serve a broad customer base, including content creators, wholesale service providers, and businesses requiring disaster recovery services, positioning Izmir as a regional hub for OTT and hyperscaler operators seeking alternative geographic routes.
The investment adds to a growing wave of digital infrastructure projects across Türkiye, reinforcing the country's position as a rising data and connectivity hub between Europe, Africa, and Asia, while further strengthening Türkiye's role as the nexus of technology, innovation, and investment within the global ecosystem.
