Türkiye’s tourism revenue hits new record

The wheels of Türkiye’s chimneyless industry are turning ever faster as data released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat) show that the country’s tourism revenue in the first 9 months of 2014 has reached USD 26.6 billion, marking an all-time record for the period.


Türkiye welcomed more than 30 million visitors between January and September, with a rise of 6.1 percent over the same period of 2013.


Increasing by 8.5 percent year-on-year, 74.3 percent of the total revenue consisted of individual expenses while 25.7 percent was made by those traveling through holiday companies.


Türkiye is the 6th most popular holiday destination in the world with more than 35 million foreign visitors, according to 2013 data from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).


The country is expected to welcome a total of 43 million tourists this year with a revenue target of USD 36 billion, according to a forecast made by the Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB).
