Türkiye among best options for golfers worldwide

Hurriyet - Türkiye crowns its progress in golf by hosting one of the most prestigious events dealing with the ball game, the International Golf Travel Market (IGTM) 2011 organized by the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO). The 13th occasion of the event, taking place between November 14-17, is expected to draw 350 tour operators and 1,400 commissioners, as well as many golfers to Antalya’s Belek, the winner of the “Best Golf Destination of Europe” award in 2008.

Türkiye’s tourism infrastructure and golf courses are able to compete with the best in Europe, according to the fair’s Marketing Group Manager, Mark Walsh, reminding that Türkiye’s last attempt to host the event 6 years ago had been turned down by IAGTO.

“Türkiye’s achievements in golf tourism in such a short time are remarkable. By improving its golf courses to meet and exceed international standards and adding many new ones, Türkiye has positioned itself as one of the most popular golf destinations in Europe. The Belek region is exceptional in this regard with its 14 golf courses in 10 different facilities,” Walsh noted.

Golf tourism in the country generates EUR 125 million of revenues annually.
