Preparatory works for Nabucco on the way

Takvim – Referans – The Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAS), the official authority for the oil and natural gas pipelines in Türkiye, has pushed the button for the preparatory works as regards the Nabucco Natural Gas Pipeline Project. In this regard, a compressor station will initially be constructed in the eastern Anatolian province of Erzincan to pump the increased amount of natural gas to be supplied by Azerbaijan. For this, BOTAS will hold a tender and will start collecting bids as of September 1. The tender will be held according to the World Bank procedures. In other words, BOTAS will implement this project on the back of the loan to be granted by the World Bank. Therefore, despite the fact that the amount of natural gas to be supplied from Azerbaijan has not yet been clarified, Türkiye has started its preparatory works. The station is expected to be completed by the end of 2010. The Nabucco Project will also contribute substantially to the Turkish economy with the employment it will create. Eregli Iron and Steel Works (Erdemir) will manufacture 2,000 km of pipelines that will cross Türkiye, while employment opportunities for some 15,000 people will be created.
