Turkish retail sector continues to grow

Hurriyet English - Sabanci Holding, a Turkish conglomerate with interests in retail, energy and banking, said on Tuesday that it aims to open 80 new DiaSa discount grocery stores in 2009 to bring the total number in the chain to 700. DiaSA, which has 620 stores in 22 Turkish provinces, increased its sales to TRY 683 million (USD 413.9 million) in 2008, Sabanci's Retail Group President Haluk Dincer told at a press conference held in Istanbul, the Anatolian Agency reported. Türkiye has a fast-growing retail industry and the market is estimated to be worth around USD 257 billion in 2008, with half of this figure in food retail, he added. Sabanci operates in the Turkish retail industry with CarrefourSA, the discount market chain DiaSA and the electronic retailer TeknoSA.
