German technology retailer to open 7 new stores, employ 500

Dünya – Technology retail chain Media-Saturn, a division of Metro Group, plans to open 7 new stores in Türkiye until the year end. Türkiye’s consumer technology market has grown considerably in recent years, reaching a USD 9 billion volume in 2010 figures.
The German company opened 3 stores, one of them being the biggest yet in Türkiye, in 2011 and will add 7 more, according Media-Saturn CEO Nuri Topatan. Media-Saturn targets a turnover of TRY 1 billion in 2011, Topatan said in a meeting, evaluating the firm’s 2010 performance. “Our turnover in 2010 has reached TRY 871 million with an increase of 74 percent over the previous year” he said, adding that TRY 1 billion target was easily achievable. The stores to be opened will create employment for 500 people, Topatan said, adding that the total number of Media Markt and Saturn stores in Türkiye will reach 27 by the end of 2011.
