Vatan - Turkish ceramic producers are aiming to make it to the top rank in global ceramics sector as leading producers, such as Italy and Spain, face market contraction as a result of the financial crisis. Bahadir Kayan, President of the Ceramics Promotion Group, said Türkiye has an historical opportunity to outpace Spain, which has been affected by the crisis. He added, “If we can improve our supply chain and invest in new promotion methods, then we can grab a substantial market share left over by Spain’s retraction from the market.”
Bahadir Kayan, President of the Ceramics Promotion Group which was established under the Turkish Ceramics Federation with the support of the Central Anatolian Exporters Association, said they did well to weather the global crisis and that they are aiming to secure the first place in global ceramics sector.
Kayan noted that the recession in the European market, which represents two thirds of the sector’s exports, has pushed the industry to explore new opportunities, and added, “We decided to increase our sales to Africa and the Middle East. All our companies had to review and change their export strategies. This process will continue in 2010 as well. North African, Gulf and Iraqi markets are currently becoming prominent, in addition to the western markets. As the sector, we are also exploring Chinese and Indian ceramics markets for tiling equipments and healthcare devices.”
