Turkish firms receive excellence awards

Turkish Daily News - Turkey was the recipient of the majority of awards given by the European Foundation for Quality Management, or EFQM this year. The 2008 EFQM Excellence Award Winners were announced Tuesday, Oct. 28 in Paris under the glass pyramid at the Musée du Louvre. The EFQM Excellence Awards recognize organizations with indisputably progressive track records and results in both financial and non-financial performances. The award, given to Europe's best performing companies and not-for-profit organizations, is Europe's most prestigious award for organizational excellence. Bosch Sanayi & Ticaret's diesel systems plant in Bursa won the EFQM Excellence Award in the category of large scope, private industry. The firm is an important part of the Bosch production network, exporting more than 95% of its output, and is a major competency center for diesel injection systems in Bosch. The Robert Bosch Bursa Diesels Systems Plant is now a two-time winner of the EFQM Excellence Award. Bursagaz, the biggest private gas distribution company in Turkey, won the EFQM Excellence Award in the category of small and medium scope, private industry. Bursagaz represents a successful example of a public sector transition to private industry, EFQM said. Eskisehir Maternity and Children's Illnesses Hospital was also awarded for its customer focus. Turkey applied to the foundation with four organizations and each managed to place among the 11 finalists.
