Rivals to Türkiye's leading cellphone firm Turkcell have long called for so-called mobile number portability and want it to be in place before third generation licences are awarded. Vodafone and unlisted Turkish operator Avea did not participate in a 3G tender last year as number portability had not been implemented, and a 3G licence awarded to Turkcell was cancelled due to a lack of competition. "On number portability, the infrastructure will be completed in April and it will start to be implemented from the end of October," Telecommunications Board Chairman Tayfun Acarer told reporters.
