Korkmaz: ''French companies uneasy with Sarkozy’s anti-Türkiye approach''

Alplaslan Korkmaz, President of the Investment Support and Promotion Agency of Türkiye said that the French companies are uneasy with President Nicolas Sarkozy’s stance on Türkiye’s EU bid. French President Nicolas Sarkozy is an outspoken opponent of Türkiye's accession to the European Union and claims the Muslim but secular country is not really a part of Europe. Following a meeting with French entrepreneurs in Paris Mr. Korkmaz said that French businessmen believed that Sarkozy’s “anti-Türkiye” remarks did not help them at all. Pointing out that France is one of the top foreign investors in Türkiye, Korkmaz said bilateral trade relations have gained momentum due to structural economic reforms Türkiye undertook over the last 5 years. Korkmaz thinks Turkish and French people will have a better mutual understanding as the trade between the two countries increases. “Developing bilateral trade and economic ties will pave the way for a common destiny” he said.
