Invest News DetailMilliyet - Türkiye’s flag carrier Turkish Airlines (THY) will begin flying to at least 10 new destinations in 2012, while adding 18 aircraft to its 178-plane fleet, according to THY General Manager, Temel Kotil. Briefing the press about THY’s 2012 plans, Kotil said that the new year will see a more ambitious THY with a larger investment budget. “The new destinations to be added until the new year will make THY the world’s 7th largest airline company,” said Kotil, noting the high performance of the company despite the global aviation industry’s contraction. “Currently, THY flies to 190 destinations over the world, with 16 new routes added within 2011. THY fleet has also grown considerably, with the addition of 24 new aircrafts during the year,” said the General Manager. “The sales revenue of the company during the first nine months of 2011 has gone up 35 percent to reach TRY 8.5 billion (approx. USD 4.4 billion). We intend to reach USD 7.1 billion in turnover by the year-end,” he noted. The company carried nearly 30 million passengers in 11 months, an 11.7 percent increase from January-November 2010.
