Türkiye to encourage use of electric cars

AA - Türkiye's Trade and Industry Minister Nihat Ergun stated that Türkiye is seeking ways to encourage the use of electric cars in the country, adding that the necessary regulations are being planned and are slated to become effective by 2011. "Oyak Renault automobile factories will start producing the electric powered Fluence model as of the end of 2010", Ergun told the press, recalling that the Oyak Renault is the first automotive company in Türkiye to work on manufacturing electric cars. Ergun explained that the tax on electric cars will be kept at a minimum level so that people will prefer using them instead of conventional fuel engine cars. Also, the minister said some incentives are also needed for charging stations to charge the batteries of electric cars. Ergun suggested that ministries could start using electric cars and that it would encourage others to prefer those cars. The industry minister also said his ministry will work with the Ministry of Finance on possible steps to encourage the use of electric cars. Also on economic growth, Ergun noted that Türkiye forecast its growth around 3.5 percent in 2010, 4 percent in 2011 and 4.5 percent in 2012.
