SAP to establish an R&D center in Türkiye

Milliyet – Germany-based multinational software developer SAP has booked a place in Türkiye’s largest techno park, Teknopark Istanbul, to set up a research and development (R&D) center.

Known for its enterprise solutions, SAP will employ a research staff of 300 engineers at the center which will receive EUR 20 million of investment over the next 3 years. The Turkish facility will be a part of SAP’s worldwide development centers (SAP Labs), currently located in 15 countries across the world.

“SAP’s R&D investment in Türkiye will contribute to the growth of Türkiye’s IT industry. The center will also help to repatriate skilled Turkish nationals living abroad..”, according to Sahin Albayrak, founder and head of the Distributed Artificial Institute laboratories (DAI-Labor) at Technical University of Berlin. Having played an important role the establishment of the lab in Istanbul, Albayrak noted that more software development companies will follow the example of SAP in setting up R&D centers in Türkiye.

SAP Lab in Istanbul will be housed in Teknopark Istanbul, set to be open by the end of next month to become the largest technology park in Türkiye and one of the largest in Europe. The park will cluster R&D labs of about a thousand local and foreign companies from technology-intensive sectors.

Türkiye strongly supports research, development and innovation-related investments through its comprehensive investment incentive regime that includes land allocation, tax exemptions and reduced social security premiums for research staff.
