Electricity Production from Domestic Sources Hits 66% for First 5 Months of 2020

​​​​​Türkiye's electricity production from local and renewable sources amounted to 66% in the first five months of 2020, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez announced.

“We continue to reap the fruits of our long-term investments. The goal is clear​​​​​:​ more local, more renewable,“ the minister said in his twitter account.

He also pointed out the ratio of total electricity production. According to table shared by the minister,  hydroelectricity contributed 34.3% to electricity generation, local coal provided 13.8%, wind accounted for 8.8%, geothermal consisted of 3.6%, solar added 3.5%, and biomass contributed 1.8%.

Minister Dönmez also stated that Türkiye's local and renewable electricity production was 62 % last year, meaning Türkiye is on pace to better that number.​
