“No one can deny that we have made admirable progress in the past 18 years on energy, which is the fundamental infrastructure of development," said President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan at AK Party's group meeting on March 10.
Today the total installed power capacity has exceeded 96 GW, whereas this figure did not even reach 32 GW in 2002, stated President Erdoğan, adding, “In the meantime, renewable energy sources reached a level of 50 GW from 12 GW."
Wind, solar and geothermal energy installed power rose to over 17 GW from only 36 MW in the past 18 years, further underlined President Erdoğan, and said, “Now, there is a Türkiye which gets 63 percent of its electricity from renewable energy resources. We rank 13th in the world and the 6th in Europe in terms of installed renewable energy capacity."
During his speech, President Erdoğan also referred to projects, which will transform Türkiye into an energy hub, such as the Trans-Anatolian Natural Gas Pipeline (TANAP), TurkStream, and Trans-Adriatic Pipeline.
Elaborating more on the country's projects in terms of renewable energy, President Erdoğan said, Türkiye's first floating LNG storage and regasification terminal was commissioned in 2016 in Aliağa, and Petroleum Pipeline Company's (BOTAS) second regasification terminal got operational in 2018 in Dörtyol. He further reminded that Türkiye's first deep-water drilling ship Fatih found 405 billion cubic meters of natural gas reserves on the Tuna-1 well. The second deep-water drilling ship Yavuz has made drillings for four times since it started its mission.
“Our third deep-water drilling ship, Kanuni, continues its preparatory work at Filyos Port. It will hopefully begin drilling in April," announced President Erdoğan before he ended his remarks.
