AA - Nihat Ergun, Turkey’s Minister of Industry and Trade, said Turkey has been ranked 15th in the world automotive production despite the global economic crisis.
Ergun said that exports of the automotive sector, which had a significant place in Turkey's foreign trade, reached USD 24.7 billion in 2008. "This figure was the highest recorded so far", he noted.
"The predictions of international organizations and credit rating agencies' assessment on the Turkish economy point at a period of rapid economic growth", he stressed.
Turkey ranked first in bus manufacturing and second in the production of light commercial vehicles in Europe, Ergun underlined.
