Türkiye car sales hit a new record in May

Hurriyet - Türkiye’s car market continues its historic expansion during the course of 2011, data from the country’s Automotive Distributors Association (ODD) show. With over 340,000 cars sold in the first five months, the Turkish automotive market has grown over 56 percent over the same period of the previous year.

Although the monthly growth rate has been slowing since the beginning of the year, due to Central Bank measures to limit loan growth, sales of passenger cars and light commercial vehicles (LCV) nevertheless hit a historic 80,000 units in May, clocking 35 percent more than that of May 2010.

Ranking first in the passenger car category, French car maker Renault sold over 8,226 of its locally produced cars in May, while Fiat sold a mix of 6,997 locally produced and imported models. Fiat took first place in the combined passenger car -LCV sales with 13,318 units, as Ford closely followed with 12,213 vehicles. All three manufacturers have extensive production operations in Türkiye.
