CeBIT Bilisim Eurasia kicks off with high expectations

Hurriyet - CeBIT Bilisim Eurasia, one of the biggest international trade shows in the ICT industry, opened its doors to visitors yesterday at the TUYAP Exhibition and Congress Center in Istanbul. The 12th event is expected to gather together tech companies and professionals from 16 countries and to attract some 130,000 visitors until its closing day on October 9.

The growing demand for the fair and the increasing number of attendees reflect Türkiye’s bridging position as an information highway, said Türkiye’s Minister of Transport and Communications, Binali Yildirim, at the fair’s opening ceremony. Providing details on Türkiye’s progress in the fields of information technology and telecommunications, Yildirim drew attention to the adoption rate of broadband internet in Türkiye, which greatly exceeds the world average with its 7700-fold increase in the last 10 years. “11.3 million homes have broadband internet access,” said the minister, adding that the overall bandwidth capacity connecting Türkiye to the world has been upgraded to 1,000 Gbps from 2002’s meager 7 Gbps. “The hosting of this international event proves that Türkiye’s IT sector has important responsibilities as regards contributing to the development of surrounding countries,” Yildirim noted.

The fair is expected to create USD 5 billion worth of business via established contacts, deals, and partnerships.
