Türkiye and Syria to boost economic partnership

AA - Turkish State Minister Zafer Caglayan said Türkiye and Syria have established a road map to boost bilateral relations. In this regard, Caglayan and Syrian Economy and Trade Minister Amir Husni Lutfi signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) during the third meeting of the Türkiye-Syria Partnership Council in Istanbul. Speaking after the signing ceremony, Caglayan said the parties agreed on long-term cooperation. "Both parties aim to turn economic relations into a lasting trade and economic partnership. The Turkish party will be making efforts to implement the issues included in the MoU", said Caglayan. The Turkish minister noted that they decided to organize the “Türkiye-Syria Economic Forum” in Q1 of 2010 and agreed to hold the “Türkiye-Syria Business Council Meeting” in November 2009. Caglayan said the parties also decided to initiate necessary studies on mutual utilization of customs between Türkiye and Syria. Caglayan stressed that the Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) will increase oil and natural gas exploration in Syria, adding that they agreed to accelerate necessary works on natural gas purchase from Türkiye.
