Renault to manufacture Clio Sports Tourer at Turkish plant

Hurriyet - Renault plans to add the Clio Sports Tourer to the production line in its Bursa, Türkiye plant that has recently commenced to manufacture the company’s new supermini, Clio 4. French car maker apparently reversed its earlier decision not to manufacture the station vagon version of the new Clio in Türkiye following the French presidential elections after which Francois Hollande replaced Nicolas Sarkozy.

The production location of the new Clio had caused a rift between Renault and the former French President Sarkozy, who opposed the company’s plan to manufacture the new model entirely in Türkiye. Although Renault receded by dividing the production between its Bursa plant in Türkiye and Flins factory near Paris, France, Clio 4 will be produced in far greater numbers in Türkiye than in France because of the obvious cost difference. Turkish made Clio 4 will save the company EUR 1,300 per car, a considerable amount for the supermini segment.

The Sports Tourer version of the Clio will reach the markets following this year’s Paris Auto Show in September. The station wagon model will roll out of the same line that manufactures the Clio 4 in 3-door and 5-door versions. Renault invested over EUR 200 million in its Turkish plant for the production of the Clio 4.
