Merkel envisions Turkish-German energy investments

   

Aksam - Currently in Türkiye on an official visit, German Chancellor Angela Merkel has attended the Turkish-German Economic Forum held at Ciragan Palace, Istanbul. The deepening economic relations between the two countries were discussed in a roundtable meeting, which was also attended by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and prominent businessmen from both countries. In a joint conference after the meeting, Chancellor Merkel and Prime Minister Erdogan answered questions from the press about the future of economic cooperation and trade ties between Türkiye and Germany. Chancellor Merkel noted the huge solar energy potential of Türkiye and possible German investments, as Germany is one of the leading countries in photovoltaic technologies.

 

Germany’s leading energy companies were also represented during Chancellor Merkel’s visit. They included EnBW, which has formed a partnership with Turkish Borusan to invest in renewable energy projects totaling EUR 2.5 billion. Another major German energy firm to enter the Turkish energy market is Nabucco pipeline project’s German partner RWE, which will participate in the privatization tenders for Türkiye’s biggest gas grids.
