President Erdoğan Lays Groundbreaking of Türkiye’s First Domestic Car Plant

The groundbreaking ceremony of Türkiye’s first-ever domestic car plant took place in Gemlik district of Bursa province with the attendance of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on June 18.

Addressing the audience at the ceremony, President Erdoğan emphasized that Türkiye’s first homegrown car plant will change the perception of a factory in people’s minds with its varying facilities located in a tremendous complex. President Erdoğan said, “We plan to complete the construction of the factory in 18 months and take our first vehicle from the production line in the last quarter of 2022.”

Once the construction of the factory finishes, the average annual vehicle production capacity will be 175,000. The factory will also generate employment for more than 4 thousand people.

Formerly, President Erdoğan had unveiled the prototypes of Türkiye’s first homegrown car at another historic ceremony held on December 27, 2019. Being fully electric and C-segment, the SUV and the sedan models have attracted intensive attention from both the Turkish nation and global automotive sector officials.
