Tofas-produced light commercial vehicle Doblo to go electric

Hurriyet - Türkiye’s leading motor vehicle manufacturer Tofas has developed an electric version of its popular light commercial vehicle Doblo, which is expected to enter production by next year. With over one million vehicles sold since 2000, Doblo has proved to be one of the most successful models for the Turkish-Italian joint venture. Encouraged by its Italian partner Fiat, Tofas has rolled out two of the prototypes of the electric-powered Doblo, following two months of research and development in its Bursa R&D center at a total cost of EUR 40 million. The electric-powered Doblo will have an engine co-developed with Arcelik. The serial production is slated to begin in 2011 with an additional EUR 10 million of investment, making Doblo the first electric-powered vehicle in its class.
