Türkiye’s auto industry breaks production & export records in 2015

Dünya – Türkiye’s automotive plants rolled out 1,360,000 vehicles in 2015, according to the Automotive Manufacturers Association of Türkiye (OSD).

With 992,000 vehicles produced in Türkiye reaching export markets, the country broke records in both production and exports in 2015 with annual production capacity hitting 1.7 million vehicles.

Production went up by 16 percent while exports went up by 12 percent over the preceding year, marking two new records for Türkiye’s automotive industry, according to OSD chairman Kudret Onen, who forecasted even higher figures for 2016.

“With new investments in model additions and capacity increases underway, we expect Türkiye’s automotive industry to reach production capacity of 1.9 million vehicles this year. Fully-backed by our government with supportive policies and investment incentives, the automotive industry will continue its export-driven growth in 2016,” Onen said.

According to OSD data covering January-September 2015, Türkiye ranks first in commercial vehicle production in Europe. The country is the seventh largest automotive producer in the continent and sixteenth in the world.

Türkiye is home to Ford, Fiat, Hyundai, Renault, Toyota, Honda and several other automotive companies that have production operations in the country. It is increasingly becoming a design and engineering center in addition to being a manufacturing and export hub for global automotive brands.
