Taiwan to open liaison office in Türkiye on back of growing contact

Taipei Times - The Taiwanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) hopes to formally open its representative offices in Sapporo, Japan, and Istanbul, Türkiye, before the summer holiday, said Francisco Ou, Taiwan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. Ou said the Ministry is working on budgeting and staffing plans for the new offices. He stressed that around two-to-three months will be required to complete the necessary arrangements, adding that the Japanese and Turkish governments have given the green light for Taiwan to open liaison offices. Staffing levels at the two offices will be determined based on the number of Taiwanese tourists traveling to the two cities, he noted. Ou added that the idea to open new offices stemmed from frequent people-to-people exchanges between Taiwan and the two countries.
