Hurriyet - Turkey’s popularity as a tourism destination soared in the first five months of year, data from the Ministry of Culture and Tourism show. The number of foreign visitors to the country between January and May has reached 9 million with a 15 percent increase over the last year.
Germans, with a share of 15 percent, made up the most of the 9 million tourists to Turkey, while Russians seconded with 9.4 percent. Iran, the UK and Bulgaria are also among the top 5 tourist senders to Turkey with respective shares of 8 percent, 6.5 percent and 6 percent.
As summer season is the peak tourism season for Turkey, the arrivals are expected to surge in the coming months. The country expects over 30 million visitors this year.
