Türkiye Marks Completion of Istanbul-Izmir Highway and Bursa City Hospital

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan recently inaugurated the new mega-highway project linking Istanbul and Izmir, which by population are respectively Türkiye’s largest and third largest cities. He also was able to mark the opening of Bursa City Hospital, the 10th hospital in a series of 31 throughout Türkiye.

Addressing the audience at the inauguration of the Istanbul-Izmir highway, President Erdoğan said that Türkiye has turned into a country that practices its sovereignty thanks to the reforms, services, and investments implemented during the last 17 years. “If Türkiye is still standing tall despite all the negativities, we owe it to the place to which we have brought our country,” Erdoğan emphasized.

The USD 11 billion project, which cuts the travel distance by around 100 km and thus saves drivers fuel and time, was financed by a joint venture group under the Build-Operate-Transfer model. The joint venture group will administer the highway for about 22 years.

On the other hand, Bursa City Hospital is the 10th city hospital in Türkiye to be opened as part of an ambitious plan to create a total of 31 city hospitals throughout the country. With its capacity of 1,355 beds, the total capacity of city hospitals in Türkiye has reached 13,417.
